ABOUT
MISSION STATEMENT
We aim to raise gender equity in sport and empower female athletes of all ages and skill levels by increasing the exposure of women in sports media coverage and shining a light on female athletics.
WHAT WE ARE
We are a non-profit organization that strives to close the gender inequity gap in sports media. On this website we provide news, feature and opinion articles related to women in sport. Additionally, we create videos, run engaging social media accounts and sell empowering apparel.
WHY WE STARTED
Do you ever see women’s sports on TSN, Sportsnet, ESPN and Sports Illustrated? Probably not, because women's sports only receive 4% of all sports media coverage (Tucker Centre for Research on Girls and Women in Sport, 2014).
Is it concerning to you that those professional female athletes have to work day jobs in order to afford a house but professional male athletes can afford mansions with their sports salary? Female athletes train just as hard as those millionaires.
Did you know, according to Fast and Female , girls drop out of sports at six times the rate of boys? It's because our aspiring, little female athletes aren’t exposed to substantial role models because the media, sports fans and society never put a spotlight on women’s sports.
Have you ever noticed, subconsciously, even for a second, that female sports are shoved aside? This is why we started.

WHO WE ARE
JESSA BRAUN
President & Founder "If you Google "ENFP," you'll basically be granted VIP access into the backstage of my brain. But what the Internet won't tell you is that I love soccer, running, forests, snowboarding, Harry Potter and every Taylor Swift song ever. I'm a 21-year old Canadian from Kitchener, ON and my role model is soccer star Julie Ertz (USWNT)."
LAURA BANNIER
News Writer (Running)
"I’m a 21-year old French girl that lived eight months in Canada as an exchange student. I always loved practicing sports. Starting with roller skating, I went on to gymnastics, rugby and running . . . and I’m always willing to try something new! As a journalist, my goal is to give visibility to the groups that are underrepresented, such as women in sports. When I’m not running or reporting, I’m probably enjoying the outdoors with my friends. I’m glad to contribute to a better equality for women in sports thanks to She Scores."

TASHA O'NEILL
News Writer (Soccer) "As a soccer news writer for She Scores I also enjoy playing and watching the sport. I’ve played soccer all my life and continue to try and push myself to get better in both skills and endurance. When I’m not on the field I love taking photos and working on fun journalism projects with my peers. I’ve always been proud to be female and always tried to move that power to others who need it. As She Scores grows I hope to enrich the content and make some special reports."
KENDRA SAXTON
Features Writer "I’ve been playing soccer since I could walk, and the sport continues to be something highly influential in my day-to-day life. I love sports because they allow you to be creative, build confidence and make memories you will never forget. I have continued my soccer journey playing for York University, where I also study English and Professional Writing. While I love to be on the field, I also enjoy blogging and writing for causes that I care deeply about. Writing for She Scores allows my two greatest passions to cross paths and I am really excited about that! My goal is to bring new and interesting perspectives into the issues surrounding women’s sports and create awareness so they get the attention they deserve." |
COLLEEN NESBITT
News Writer (Rowing and Swimming) Nesbitt is from Alberta, Canada and is currently completing her Masters of Science at the University of Calgary. She competed as a swimmer for University of British Columbia, but has since switched to rowing. She now rows for Team Canada.
LIZ SHIRO
YouTuber
I am a journalism student at Wilfrid Laurier University. I am passionate about social media and content creation, specifically, creating videos for YouTube. I have been doing video editing since twelve years old and making YouTube videos for three years. Sports journalism is new to me, but I love sports. I have been following and playing sports my whole life, such as long-distance running, badminton and figure skating. I truly believe in women’s sports and am excited to help to promote She Scores' message.

DEVON MOMY-GAMACHE
